Kala Sangam gives VIP’s a tour of St Peter’s House
As Kala Sangam continues to work towards our exciting transformation into Bradford Arts Centre in 2025, we were delighted to invite Secretary of State for Culture Lisa Nandy, Laura Dyer, Deputy Chief Executive of Arts Council England, Executive Director Dan Bates from Bradford 2025 and the Leader of Bradford Council Susan Hinchliffe, to St Peter’s House.
Creative Director Alex Croft and Construction Director Mark Cregan from main contractor Simpson gave visitors a full tour of the building at one of the key stages of our multimillion pound capital redevelopment. In August, we removed the scaffolding on one side of the building to reveal our brand new roof. As well as this, we now have a hole in the floor where our main central staircase will be, positioned perfectly to have a fantastic view of Bradford Cathedral. If you are interested in hearing about how our building is developing, take a look at our monthly blogs on our website here.
Included in the tour of the building was a chance for visitors to preview our new hoardings that have gone up around St Peter’s House. The hoardings are a first glimpse of the new Bradford Arts Centre branding and logo, designed by the fantastic Out of Place Studio. Also on the hoardings, you will find some of our favourite photos from Kala Sangam over the years, alongside three fantastic pieces of poetry from Kamal Kaan, Nabeela Ahmed, and Kirsty Taylor and Kemmi Gill. Next time you walk past St Peter’s House, make sure to read and scan the QR codes to watch the artists reading their work in beautiful spots around Bradford.
Alex Croft said “We are at a very important milestone in the development of Bradford Arts Centre, with building work going ahead at full force, and introducing the world to our brand new look. It was especially great to show the Secretary of State around before we start building work inside, so she can see the full scale of the works we are delivering. We are looking forward to welcoming the public and the Secretary of State back into our building in 2025 for an incredible line up of performances that will engage audiences from around the world.”
