Technical Stage Services Appointed to Fit Out Theatre at New Bradford Arts Centre.
Following a public tender process, Kala Sangam has appointed Selby based Technical Stage Services (TSS) to complete the fit-out and installation of the new studio theatre at Bradford Arts Centre. The city centre venue, which will open to the public in September, is currently undergoing a multi-million-pound refurbishment that will significantly improve accessibility.
TSS will install the audio and visual systems for the new 200 seat theatre, creating a state of the art, modern space for artists to perform. TSS will work closely with main contractors Simpson to complete the installation, which will be one of the final elements of the building process.
Alex Croft, Creative Director of Kala Sangam said, ‘We are delighted to be working with Technical Stage Services on the fit-out of our theatre. They have extensive experience of working on projects of this kind, including working with us to create our previous theatre space. They understand the occasional challenges of working in a heritage building like ours and have a strong commitment to sustainability. With TSS’s guidance, the new theatre at Bradford Arts Centre will be fully kitted out to provide the best sound and lighting experience for artists and audiences.’
Work to redevelop the company’s the Grade-II listed building, which was originally home to Bradford’s General Post Office, began in spring 2024 and is on schedule to be completed this summer. As well as creating the new theatre space and installing lifts to ensure step-free access to all floors of the building for the first time, the work is creating 5 new studio spaces for use by artists and community groups, a permanent home for BCB Radio, and a new front entrance.
The programme for Bradford Arts Centre’s opening season will be revealed in July, with the first performances taking place in September.
